corporate responsibility
l
our workplace
2007 was a significant year for us. It was the year we
turned our long-standing values and culture into a
corporate responsibility strategy. We employed our first
Corporate Responsibility Manager, drew up our first
environmental policy and measured our carbon footprint
for the first time.
This new, structured, approach has sharpened our focus
on the things that matter most to our clients, our
employees, our market and our environment. It's helped
us assess what we've been doing and it's triggered new,
targeted initiatives. All in all it's made preparing this
report really quite easy!
Two other factors convinced us that the time was right to
publish our first ever Corporate Responsibility report. The
first was that we have risen to 53rd position in the Sunday
Times list of the 100 Best Companies to work for this year,
with our `green and caring culture' singled out for praise.
The second was the award of an MBE to our Chairman,
David Evans, for services to corporate responsibility. This
honour is a much-deserved tribute to David's pioneering
work in disability awareness, diversity understanding and
childcare provision in particular.
By this stage we were realising that we've been
hiding our light under a bushel. Well, no more!
We are putting a marker in the sand with this
report: this is where we are now. We
know we have much to learn,
momentum to maintain and more
to achieve. We hope you'll revisit
us in a year's time to find out
what progress we have made.
