our environment
·
Using resources with more care: we recycle wherever possible, including paper, cardboard, plastic, aluminium cans,
IT equipment and office furniture. We also only use recycled or certified renewable source copying paper.
·
Travelling light: a number of initiatives have been introduced to encourage employees to use their cars less.
Video conferencing facilities have been established at all three of our sites to
help reduce inter-site travel and we have launched incentivised public
transport, car sharing, walk-to-work and bike-to-work
schemes a £20 bonus for those who cycle to work
for more than 12 days a month - as well as a
bike-purchase perk, as part of our
Route4work benefits package.
Cycling racks and shower
facilities add to the financial
attraction.
·
Using energy more efficiently:
we are cutting our power
consumption by installing more
efficient light fittings and double
glazing, lagging pipes in the community
theatre we support and encouraging
employees to turn computer monitors and
phone chargers off when not in use. We have
also switched energy providers, moving to one that
uses only renewable sources.
·
Reducing waste: we are reducing waste of all kinds, by
replacing individual desk bins with central bins to encourage
use of the recycling facilities. By shredding and recycling
warehouse archive material at the end of 2007,
over 8 tonnes has been saved from landfill as a result.
Here are some of the
year's highlights.
``
I'm very impressed with the amount of resource and
energy Grass Roots has put behind our CSR policy.
It's certainly paying much more than lip service
to green issues.
